Abstract
Authors performed a double blind study to evaluate the therapeutic effect of Viramid? ointment in patients with herpes simplex or herpes zoster. Total 110 patients included in this study, those are 58 herpes simplex patients (labialis : 44, progenitalis : 7, others : 7) and 52 herpes zoster patients.
The estimation of therapeutic effect was done by the disappearance time of vesicles in herpes simplex and by the crust formation time in herpes zoster.
The results are as follows;
1) Herpes simplex group: The percentage of disappearance of vesicles within the second day and 4th day of treatment were 41.8%, 83.7% respectively in the Viramid? ointment applied group and 6.6%, 53.3% respectively in the control group which applied placebo ointment (p<0.05) The time of disappearance of vesicles in the Viramide ointment applied group showed shorter than that in control group.
2) Herpes zoster group: The percentage of crust formation within the 4th day and 6th day of treatment were 43.3%, 86.6% respectively in the Viramid ointment applied group and 18.1%, 63.6% respectively in the control group which applied placebo ointment (p<0. 05). The time of crust formation in Viramid ointment applied group showed shorter than that in control group.
